Dear Future AP Psych Students,   Congratulations on embarking on this exciting journey into the captivating world of AP Psychology! As a former student who just completed the course, I wanted to share some advice and suggestions based on my personal experiences to help you make the most of your time in AP Psych and enhance your learning:   Embrace Active Learning: Throughout the semester, I discovered that actively engaging with the material was key to understanding and enjoying the subject. Instead of simply reading the textbook or listening to lectures, actively participate in discussions, ask questions, and seek clarification. Trust me, it really does deepen your understanding and make the class more enjoyable!   1. Connect Theory to Real Life: Psychology is everywhere, so try to connect the theories and concepts you learn in class to real-life situations. It’s incredible how psychological principles can explain human behavior, decision-making, and social intera...

Welcome to my blog! With APs and finals coming up, it's the perfect time to discuss memory. Whether you're a student preparing for exams or simply interested in learning more about memory, I've got some fun stuff for you to do. In this post, I'll be sharing a variety of memory tests for you to try out. The first test was on short-term memory . I got a 8/12, which in my opinion is pretty good for me. I think this site is valid because its extremely straightforward and the results of the memory test won't change. Additionally, the site uses words similar in length to ensure that there are less variables interfering with the results of the memory test.      The 2nd memory tests is the BBC Science Memory Test . I did decent on this test even thought I messed up on some of its questions. This test assesses your short-term memory and requires you to remember a sequence of numbers in reverse order. After completing the test, you'll receive a score indicating how well ...

Welcome to the world of Social Psychology! Today, we are going to explore some of the most intriguing concepts in social psychology in real life. The five concepts we will be discussing are Compliance, Obedience, Social Facilitation, Group Polarization, and Reciprocity Norms. And, the theme we will be exploring is "Sports." Compliance: Compliance is the act of adjusting one's behavior to align with the demands or requests of a person or group. In sports, we often see players comply with the rules set by the referees, coaches, and governing bodies. For instance, in the image below, we see a soccer player putting the ball down and preparing for a free-kick. The player is complying with the rules of the game, which state that the ball must be stationary before a free-kick can be taken. Obedience: Obedience is the act of following the orders or commands of someone who is in a position of authority. In sports, coaches and team captains are often in positions of authority, an...

Hello my fellow blog followers, today we will be talking about something psychology related. My topic of choice for this week is parenting, and how modeling affects kids. I found an interesting article on Psychology Today  that talks about a women depicts how her behaviors has impacted the action of her daughter. In the article, she states that she even though she gives her daughter unconditional love and ignore the minor mistakes, her daughter still gets frustrated at every little mistake that she makes. This allows us to visualize the massive impact that modeling may have on another person. One of the very first experiment done about modeling was the Bobo doll experiment performed by Albert Bandura. He noticed the children who were exposed to an adult being aggressive to the doll would also show the same aggressive tendencies similar to the adults. This was a groundbreaking discovery that shows how exposure to society may change the tendencies of the child since they have l...

Welcome back dedicated blog followers!  This week 4, so we will need to dive deeper into cool information about our senses. I picked this article that talks about how taste if affected by the smell and the presentation of the food. It talks about how even though taste and sight isn't technically part of taste, it does influence perception. Cells that recognize these flavors reside in taste buds located on the tongue and the roof of the mouth when food if placed in the mouth, but concurrently, we also activate our sensory cells to perceive qualities such as temperatures, spiciness, or creaminess. Additionally, when we smell food, the information gathered by these cells is relayed to the mouth via olfaction referral which effects our perception of what the food will taste like. To try this, if you hold your nose and place a strawberry jelly bean in your mouth and chew, but you would only be able to detect sweetness and a little sourness. However, if you open your nose, the odor mole...

BioHeroes

Hi my dedicated blog followers, today is week 3 and I will be constructing a superhero based on my birthday. I was born on January 11, 2007, which means that I must construct a hero that utilizes his power with norepinephrine and hippocampus. These are two seemingly random things, but if it had to be a superhero, it would be named Memorizer. His powers would be to help a person memorize something extremely quickly even in an extremely stressful situation since it also has the power to control the amount of norepinephrine. Origin story: A few years ago, John was just an ordinary student at school. He was extremely competitive in terms of grades and always strives to get the best grades that he can, but one day, he failed an extremely major test that denied him entrance to an extremely prestigious college. He was so sad that he tried to end his life on the same day, but while he was standing on top of the building anticipating to jump down, he was met up by Cosmo, the academic god. He co...
